Hello!

I am currently a third year student at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. I will be graduating in May 2017 from the School of Arts and Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, two minor certificates in Education and Italian as well as a Certificate in Multicultural Competence and a Rutgers Civic Scholar Certificate. I plan on attending graduate school for education as soon as I graduate in order to become a special education teacher for elementary school students.
My passion for children and special education began in high school when I worked as a library assistant in my town’s local library (Johnson Public Library in Hackensack, NJ). I was able to work with the librarians in the children’s department in creating after school programs that allowed children of all ages and ability to participate in. This gave me the experience necessary to be able to say that I wanted to get into the field of education. In college, I also had the opportunity to observe classrooms ranging from urban and suburban to remedial and gifted classes. After realizing that special education children were truly gifted and looked to their teachers as a role model, I decided that this was the career for me. Throughout my college education, I have been able to continue feeding my passion through volunteering, tutoring, and mentoring in the New Brunswick area.

  1. Xenia, a good editor could improve your awkward language. For example, ‘I plan on attending graduate school…’ should be ‘I plan to attend…’. ‘that allowed children of all ages and ability to participate in’. ..’enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities….’ And a photo of you as a teacher (perhaps with a child) would be more professional.
